We read so much in our class. We all love books! One of the stations that we can choose during rotations is to write a letter to our favorite author. Well, the best part of this has been receiving a response! So far, we have gotten a response from two of our all time favorites, Judy Blume and Patricia Polacco!! We know how busy an author is, so we really appreciate the time that they take to write us back. Here are the two letters we have recieved so far...

Hot or Cold?
We did an awesome experiement in Science last week. We had jars of hot and cold water. We colored the cold water blue and the hot water yellow. First, we put the cold water on top of the hot water and the colors mixed right away because the cold water is heavier than the hot. The water became green. Next, we put the hot water on top of the cold water. It was so cool, because the colors didn't mix! We made predictions about how long it would take for the colors to mix. It took longer than we expected! Finally, the water cooled down enough for the colors to mix. It was a great Science lesson!

Science Fun!
We have been having so much fun learning about Matter, Mixtures and Solutions. We made a delicious fruit "mixture!" It helped us to see that we can separate a mixture, but not a solution! Yesterday, we used different tools such as magnets to try to separate a mixture of sand, gravel and iron filings. After lots of work, it was a success!

A Bad Case of...
These first weeks of school have been busy!! It has also been a lot of fun! We have been working on a fun writing activity this week, based off of the book, A Bad Case of Stripes, by David Shannon. It is one of my favorites!! We started planning by listing all of the foods that we love and drawing ourselves with the "stripes!" We used those ideas to write our own stories. They are amazing!! Here is some of our work!

Charlotte's Web
My favorite time in the year is when we get to read Charlotte's Web. It is by far one of my favorite books! As the year is winding down, we just had the chance to finish reading. We all loved this great story, especially, the amazing characters and examples of friendship. There are many great things to do with this book, and we made webs with character traits that described Charlotte. Here are some of the webs we created!

Over the past several months, we have been working on our Biography research projects. We've worked SO hard on these, and can finally say that they are almost finished!! We are putting the final touches on our presentations. We each got a chance to choose how we want to present our information, here are some examples of our hard work!

Let it Rain!!
In Science, we have been learning about the water cycle. Specifically, we've learned about condensation, precipitation and evaportation. I found this fun experiment online, we had to try it out! It was a great way for us to see what happens when a cloud gets too heavy and leads to precipitation. All it took was a little shaving cream and some food coloring!

Life in a Snow Globe
Recently, we read one of my favorite books, Snow Music by Lynne Rae Perkins. The illustrations in this book are amazing and it inspired this writing lesson. The kids wrote, "If I lived in a snow globe..." and their responses were great! They were so creative and fun to read! After we finished writing, they each made their own snow globe. And of course, they put themselves in them!! They loved taking the pictures and deciding how they would be floating around inside. They did such great work, I decided to share a few...
